Cromwell, 85, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on a farm in Maddensville, on January 21, 1925, he was the son of the late Emory A. and Grace Mort Cromwell. Wayne retired after 37 years of service as a truck driver for Roadway Express with an exemplary driving record of 3.5 million miles accident-free. He was named "Driver of the Year" by the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association. He had also worked at the Glen-Gery Brick Yard, Harrisburg. Wayne was a storekeeper in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving on the U.S.S. Burrows (DE-105) and the LST 727 ships. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union #776. Wayne loved farming and watching his grandchildren compete in rodeos. He also enjoyed boating and hunting, and was a NASCAR and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan. Wayne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty C. Reed Cromwell, whom he married on March 8, 1947; two daughters, Bonnie A. Daniels, wife of David B. of Hummelstown, and Brenda L. Bowen of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Shawn D. Daniels, husband of Gay Barnes of Willow Springs, N.C., Angela L. Daniels, fiancée of Jordan Hoke of Ebenezer, and Samantha J. Bowen and Dustin M. Bowen, both of Fredericksburg; one sister, Geraldine Lerch of Bloomfield, N.M.; and two brothers, Earl Cromwell of Terre Haute, Ind., and Donald Cromwell, husband of Bobbie of Seabring, Fla. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a surrogate brother, W. Clarence Moffitt. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Main St., Hummelstown. Interment with military honors will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home Friday from 1 p.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042.
