Dunnigan LANCASTER Joseph Herman Dunnigan, 89, formerly of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at ManorCare in Lancaster. He was predeceased by his wife, Sara Jane (Slaughter) Dunnigan, on March 6, 1993. He was born Friday, April 8, 1921, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Frances H. and Rose (Reynolds) Dunnigan. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, served during WWII, and received the Meritorious Unit Award, American Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, and WWII Victory Medal. He graduated from Baltimore City College and was employed by PennDot for over 35 years. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, previous member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, and Hershey Italian Lodge. He is survived by three daughters, Nancy L. Kreider and husband, John of Lancaster, Margery A. Oblinger of Springfield, Ill., and Mary E. Palmieri and husband, Gilbert of Lancaster; a son, Robert C. Dunnigan of Palmyra; 11 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by four sons, Francis F., Richard E., Patrick J., and Edward P. Dunnigan; two brothers; and one sister. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 245 W. Pine St., Palmyra, 17078 with Father James F. Podlesny as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hershey Cemetery, Hershey. Family and friends are invited for viewing on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund.
