Eckenrode, 62, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. He was the husband of Betty Shimko Eckenrode, to whom he was married 38 years. Born in Harrisburg, on June 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Wachter Eckenrode. Dennis was a 1965 graduate of the BishopMcDevitt High School and a 1970 graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. He served as a State Trooper for 25 years until he retired in 1995. Dennis established Dennis R. Eckenrode Rare Coins in Cleona, which is still in operation. Dennis was a numismatist and was a featured speaker on radio and television warning people of coin solicitations. He also enjoyed boating, bicycling, karaoke, and going to Ocean City, Md. He loved being outdoors and in the mountains, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Dennis was a member of the American Numismatic Association, Red Rose Coin Club, Lebanon Valley Coin Club, Florida United Numismatists, American Association of State Troopers, and the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of a singing group ''The Showstoppers'' with his two friends, Gina Nations and Karen Schultz. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Cary Eckenrode and wife, Abigail "Christy" of Annville, and Bryan Eckenrode and wife, Jessica of Annville; five grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Hannah, Brennon, and Brooklyn; and many other loving family members. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 29, at 9:30 a.m. from the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 Campmeeting Road, Jonestown, with burial in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. There will be no viewing on Monday before the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
