Elwell, 87, formerly of Blue Bell, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton. She was the wife of Dr. William J. Elwell, Jr., MD, who passed away in 1994. Born August 2, 1922, in Lickdale, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Martha Mary ''Bertha'' (Mease) Soliday. She was a graduate of Jonestown High School and received her nursing degree from Germantown Hospital. As a nurse, she worked in her husband's practice in Bethlehem and more recently served as night supervisor at the former Allentown General Hospital. Mrs. Elwell had a great love for music and enjoyed teaching piano. She sang in the choir at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Fort Washington and was a member of the Bethlehem Bach Choir for over 30 years. Mrs. Elwell also played the carillon at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and at various other venues including Arlington National Cemetery. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at the George Washington Memorial Chapel. Surviving are two sons, William J. Elwell, III of Long Beach, Calif., and Jeffrey V. Elwell of West Lake, Ohio; a brother, Luther Soliday and his wife, Betty of Lebanon; a granddaughter, Major Nicole E. Ussery and her husband, Major Jeremy J. Ussery; and a greatgranddaughter, Kendall Ussery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday at Washington Memorial Chapel, Rte. 23, Valley Forge Historical Park. Friends may call for the viewing today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.L. Williams, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., Skippack Pike at Cedars Road, Skippack.
