"Bob" Geiger Sr. of Cornwall Manor, died August 28, 2010, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Romaine J. Gingrich Geiger, his wife of 68 years. Born in Woodlynne, N.J., he was the son of the late Raymond and Alice Rowan Geiger. Bob retired from the U.S. Army as an E-9, Command Sergeant Major with Reserve rank of Captain, Artillery, after 21 years of service. He was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in Germany, Japan and Korea twice, earning the Bronze Star Medal in Europe and the Purple Heart Medal in Korea. He was known to most veterans as the Director of Veteran's Affairs and served Lebanon County in that position 24 years, retiring in 1999. Bob was active locally in the Richland American Legion Post 880: Military order of the Cooties, Pup Tent 39, Myerstown VFW Post 6076: Voiture 55, 40 et 8, Lebanon County Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 1983, Association of the United States Army; Society of the 213th CAAA: Travelers Protective Association, Post E; AARP; and Myerstown Senior Citizens. Bob was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon. Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Damon Geiger, O.SS.T, Irving, Texas, and Charles R. husband of Yvonne Geiger, Lebanon; granddaughter, M. Jeanne Geiger, Oakland, Calif.; and grandson, Robert V. Geiger, Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank and a half sister, Irene. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday morning, September 8, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. 126 S. 9th St., Lebanon 17042. Viewing hours from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors.
