Hackman CAMPBELLTOWN Loretta Elizabeth (Stroh) Hackman, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 29, 2010, at the Columbia Cottage in Campbelltown. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Raymond E. Hackman, who passed away on January 6, 1997. Born in Lebanon, on January 28, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Margaret Bell Stroh. She had one older brother and sister, and one younger brother and sister. After attending Baer's Business School, she worked in the billing office of Hershey Foods Company until marrying Raymond in 1941, after which she transitioned into being a housewife. She was an avid swimmer at the Lebanon YMCA until her health declined, and loved being outdoors and taking walks around the neighborhood. As a music lover, she participated with the Verbena Club at Cedar Haven and enjoyed many chorus group performances, as well as leading the singing. She was on the local radio station WLBR, telling jokes at the age of 90 including jokes about starting a new career. Loretta had three children, two daughters and one son. While the children were growing up, she instilled her love of the outdoors by taking them swimming in the summer or ice skating in the winter, as she was a firm believer in the benefits of fresh air. During her retirement years, she and her husband traveled extensively around the United States by car or bus, and to many ports-ofcall, such as Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Alaska on their numerous cruises. She is survived by her children, Margaret A. "Peggy" Lapp of Lancaster, Elizabeth L. "Betsy" Shelly of Palmyra, wife of Dale Shelly, and Robert E. Hackman of Ellicott City, Md.; along with six grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Mildred Allwein of Thornton, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by the rest of her siblings, as well as one grandchild, Michael Shelly. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, April 5 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. A visitation for friends and family will be from 1 to 2 p.m. before the beginning of the Mass. Interment at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Lebanon will occur immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit Building Fund.
