M. shabodeho@aol.com October 15, 2010, 5:24 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on October 13, 2010 Myrtle Hagaman RYDAL Myrtle Sherk Hagaman, a centenarian, lived in Palmyra for many years and died Saturday, October 9, 2010, in a nursing facility near her daughter's home in Rydal. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold Spencer Hagaman and the oldest daughter of Samuel Guy and Lillian (Gernert) Sherk. She is survived by daughter, Clee Leonard (husband Edward); and grandsons, Eric (wife Chitra) of Morris Township, N.J., and Douglas (wife Diana, son Oliver) of San Diego, Calif. A sister, Aurie Rothgaber, lives in Hershey, and a brother, Richard Sherk, in Carlisle. Five siblings predeceased her. She was born January 18, 1910, on her parents' farm between Lickdale and Fredericksburg. She loved music and at 15 was elected "pianist" of the Union Salem Sunday School near Lickdale, where her mother became "assistant pianist." She later studied piano with Professor Johann M. Blose at his Lebanon Institute of Musical Art. While working as an assistant housemother at the Milton Hershey School, she met her husband, a physical education teacher, who died in 1975. Myrtle was an active member and volunteer at Palmyra's First United Methodist Church for almost 50 years. Services will be held Saturday at 12 noon at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, with the Rev. Dr. David Harris presiding. Family and friends are welcome at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hershey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 520 E.
