Heistand, 89, formerly of Lebanon, died Friday, November 5, 2010, at Heartland Hospice of Delaware. He was the husband of the late Anna-Jean (Basselgia) Heistand who passed away in 2000. Born in Elizabethtown, on December 5, 1920, he was the son of Walter K. Heistand and Stella Mae (Stern) Heistand. Al was a master carpenter by trade working for years for Reppert's and then H. B. Alexander in Harrisburg. He was a WWII veteran with the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific Theater. After retiring, he spent some time traveling with Jean in their motor home. Later he moved to Arizona with his daughter and son-in-law and then relocated to Middletown, Del. Al is survived by his daughter, Patricia, and son-in-law, Barry Young, of Middletown, Del., with whom he lived. He has two grandchildren and their families, Cynthia Donelson, husband Walter, and great-grandchildren, Reilly and Declan of Middletown, Del.; and Chad Young, wife Ana, and great- granddaughter, Isabella, of Miami Beach, Fla. He is also survived by two sisters-Mary Jean Herr of Quarryville, and Helen Neuenschwander of Manheim. A viewing will be held from 11 to 11:30 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 8th and Willow St. in Lebanon, on Wednesday, where funeral services will begin at 11:30 am. Interment with full military honors will follow at Grandview Memorial Cemetery in Annville. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, 2305 E.
