M. shabodeho@aol.com January 23, 2010, 12:54 am Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 1/8/2010 Heistand, Jean E. Brandt Jean E. Brandt Heistand MANHEIM Jean E. Brandt Heistand, 83, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 4, 2010, at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. She was a graduate of Milton Hershey High School, class of 1945, and enjoyed telling family and friends that Milton S. Hershey spoke at her graduation. She was also a graduate of Central Penn Business College. She worked as a private stenographer for the CPAs at Main & Company, Harrisburg, and as a bookkeeper in her husband's business. Jean was a life time member of the United Church of Christ. She first attended at the Evangelical and Reformed Salem Church in Campbelltown, and the remaining years of her life were spent at Christ Church, U.C.C. Elizabethtown. Jean was born at home in Campbelltown to the late Ethel and Martin Brandt. She was the widow of Glenn M. Heistand, a decorated WWII veteran, who passed away 17 years ago after 42 years of marriage. She met her husband at the Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company Carnival. She often spoke of their first date when he came to court her in his bright red convertible. Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Martin Brandt, Jr. She is survived by her son, Stephen G. Heistand; her daughter, Glenda J. Seesholtz and her husband, Victor; her brother, Roger M. Brandt and his wife, Patricia of Palmyra; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her family, especially her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. One of the highlights of her life was when her granddaughter became the first doctor in the family, graduating from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey. Jean was a member of the Milton Grove Sportsmen's Club and volunteered at Mastersonville Fire Co. for apple dumpling festivals. She also belonged to the Derry Twp. Historical Society. She loved playing the piano and organ as she waited for her husband to come home for supper from the Heistand Brothers Mill. She loved being a room mother at Mastersonville Elementary School. She was always busy crocheting afghans to give to her many friends. She enjoyed family trips to Wildwood, N.J., every summer and often talked about her international trips with her husband, Glenn. She loved reading her Bible and enjoyed the visits with the Masonic daily living center's pastor. Jean was an avid Penn State fan and she never forgot meeting Joe Paterno. She was a beloved fan of the Manheim Central football team, on which her grandson played, and the Manheim Central Band where her grandchildren attended. Most of all, Jean was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Jorich Funeral Home, Middletown. Contributions may be made in Jean's name to the Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 64, Campbelltown, PA 170100064; or the Manheim Central Football Team, c/o Mike Williams, 400 Adele Ave., Manheim, PA 17545. The family wishes to express their most heartfelt gratitude for all your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.
