Hickernell, 60, died Friday, January 15, 2010, at his residence. He was the husband of Rita K. (Frederick) Hickernell to whom he was married 37 years on November 4, 2009. Born in Newmanstown, on November 21, 1949, he was the son of the late William M. and Emily (Leiby) Hickernell. He was a 1967 graduate of ELCO High School and worked at North American Refractories, Womelsdorf, for 23 years prior to working for the PA Department of Transportation, Lebanon, where he worked for nine years, retiring in 2009. He was a lifetime member of the Lebanon County Fireman's Assn. and a member of the Marion Township Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, hunting, and making and repairing pocket watches and clocks. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Melissa, wife of Daron Shellehamer of Richland; a son, William R. Hickernell of Richland; grandchildren, Darian and Jamie Shellehamer, and Ryan and Morgan Hickernell; sisters, Winifred Harris of Lancaster, Lorraine Eberly of Newmanstown, and Joyce Raihl of Womelsdorf; brothers, Jay Hickernell of Newmanstown, Donald, husband of Phyllis Hickernell of Richland, and Neil Hickernell of Newmanstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Hickernell. Funeral services will he held Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown. Viewing Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to GSH Hospice, P.O. Box 1281, Lebanon, PA 17042; or Richland Community Library, 111 E. Main St., Richland, PA 17087.
