Holden SAINT CLAIR Catherine Siney Holden, 96, died Tuesday at her residence, 424 South Second Street, Saint Clair, PA, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Saint Clair, November 17, 1913, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Flanigan Siney and the Granddaughter of John Siney, President of Workman's Benevolent Association, which was the forerunner of the United Mine workers of America. She attended Saint Mary's Elementary School and was a graduate of Saint Clair High School, Class of 1932. She was proud that she played basketball in high school and was captain of the basketball team for three years. She was a charter member St. Clair Women's Club and a member of Saint Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Saint Clair. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Socks" Holden, who was Schuylkill County Commissioner for 16 years and was affiliated with Professional Baseball for fifty years, including playing for the Philadelphia Phillies. Catherine and "Socks" had been married for 60 years. Also preceding Catherine in death were her sisters, Margaret Siney Conroy, Mae Siney Monahan, and Anna Siney. Surviving are daughter, Kathleen Holden Kanish, Saint Clair and sons, Joseph and his wife, Amelia, Churchville PA; John and his wife, Joan, Pottsville; and Congressman Tim Holden, and his wife, Gwen, Saint Clair. Surviving grandchildren are Kathleen Kanish Helm and her husband, David; Craig Holden and his wife, Amy; Joseph Holden III and his wife, Judy; Brian Holden; Kelly Holden Devine and her Husband, Patrick; Sean Holden and his wife, Lynn; and 11 great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday 10:30 a.m. at Saint Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock St., Saint Clair, PA 17970, with Rev. Msgr. William Glosser officiating. Friends may call Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Queen of the Universe Cemetery, Peach Mountain Road, Pottsville. Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 N. Second St., Saint Clair, is in charge of arrangements.
