Robert Imboden, 85, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Monday, April 26, 2010, at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home. Born on October 17, 1924, in Palmyra, he was the son of Mary (Stauffer) and Hugh O. Imboden. He graduated from Palmyra H.S. Class of 1942, from Chicago Technical Institute, and completed two courses of study at the York Institute, York. He also completed a three year course of study for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration design. Mr. Imboden was a veteran of World War II, having served 18 months in Africa and Italy in the U.S. Air Corps as a control tower and airway traffic controller. He served a total of three and a half years. He was a life long member of Trinity United Church of Christ and served on Consistory and the new Church Building Committee, and on the Palmyra Cemetery Committee. He was a former member of and served 15 years on the Palmyra Area School Board and on the Committee of Palmyra Area Recreation and Parks Commission. He served as Past President of the Palmyra Alumni Association, Board of Director's of Palmyra Jaycees, and a life long member of Palmyra American Legion. He retired from G.R. Sponaugle & Sons, Inc., Mechanical Contractors, Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jane Kreiser, whom he married in 1948. He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Robert, his wife, Mary, and grandchildren, Nicholas and Ellen; a sister, Frances Bell of York; sistersin-law, Kitty Stoever of Lebanon and Ella Kreiser of Harrisburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, 17078. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 9 a.m. until time of the service. Burial with full military honors will be held Tuesday, May 4, at 9 a.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity U.C.C., 40 W.
