Kalis, 85, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon. He was the husband of Lois C. (Keller) Kalis for the past 52 years. Joseph was born in Shenandoah, on March 5, 1925, he was a son of the late John S. and Mary E. (Igielski) Kalis. He was a retired nursing assistant from the VA Medical Center, Lebanon. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, the American Legion and enjoyed the Polka Club. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Debra Anne Kavlick of Erie, Joseph J. Kalis of Marysville, and Mary Beth Kalis of Lebanon; three grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Rao of Long Island; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 10 a.m. from St. Mary's Church, 2 N. 8th St., Lebanon, PA, 17046. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing hours Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 126 S. 9th St., Lebanon, 17042 and Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice, 202 Hathaway Park, Lebanon, PA 17042.
