Dorothy C. Karpew 

FLEMINGTON, NJ Dorothy C. Karpew, 88, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., and 
Myerstown, died Monday, December 13, 2010, at the residence of her son in 
Flemington, N.J. She was the wife of Michael Karpew, who died February 25, 
2002. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., on September 5, 1922, she was the daughter of 
the late Roy and Lucy (Reiley) Furlong. She had been a nurse's aide and worked 
in the medical records department of Richmond Memorial Hospital, Staten Island, 
N.Y. She had also worked as a nurse's aide at a nursing home in Flemington, 
N.J., and for many years at the E.C.C. Retirement Village, Myerstown, retiring 
in 1962. She was a member of Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, Myerstown, 
and enjoyed bowling and gardening. She is survived by a son, Stephen P., 
husband of Geri Karpew, with whom she resided; daughter-in-law, Shirley Karpew 
of Womelsdorf; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sisters, 
Patricia Hart of Denham Springs, La., and Lucille Dozier of Staten Island, N.Y. 
She was preceded in death by sons, Peter and Michael Karpew; and sisters, 
Claire Furlong and Mary Jensen. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday at 11 
a.m. from Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church, Myerstown. Interment at 
Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, was 
entrusted with the arrangements.
