  Lois D. Klinefelter 
  
  LEBANON Lois D. Klinefelter was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on Monday, 
  September 13th, 2010. Lois was born in her parents' farmhouse in Cocalico on 
  June 26, 1918, daughter of Evan M. Dinger and Sallie Arzbaecher Dinger. She 
  married Clifton Ernest Klinefelter on October 5, 1946. He preceded her in death 
  on November 26, 1998. After graduating from the Reading School of Nursing as a 
  Registered Nurse, she served with the Army Nurse Corps in the Pacific Theater 
  during World War II. While in the army she was assigned to the 289th Station 
  Hospital, which received the Meritorious Service Unit Award for superior 
  performance of duty on Guam and Marianas Islands. She was awarded the Bronze 
  Service Star on the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. Lois met Clifton at Fort Howard, 
  Md., where they were stationed after the war. They moved to Lebanon and both 
  worked at the Lebanon VA Hospital. They also worked at VA Hospitals in 
  Washington, D.C., and Danville, Ill., before returning to Lebanon, where she 
  retired from the Lebanon VA Medical Center in 1984. She was a member of Salem 
  Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon and served on their Archival Committee. 
  She was a member of the Women of Salem, Church Women United, and served as the 
  Secretary of the Lower Susquehanna Synod Lebanon County Clusters. She had been 
  a member of the American Business Women's Association since 1975. Lois enjoyed 
  cooking, baking, and canning, which she learned from her Mother while growing 
  up on the family farm. Her Pennsylvania Dutch upbringing gave her the inherent 
  ability to enjoy working hard to serve other people. Survivors include her son, 
  Craig (Kathy) Klinefelter of Silvis, Ill.; her daughter, Susan Heagy of 
  Lancaster; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several cousins; and 
  numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family including 
  five brothers, Clarence, Mark, Victor, Warren, and Mylin; and two sisters, 
  Grace (Gerhret) and Ruth (Firestone). Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. 
  Friday, September 17, 2010, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church 199 N. 8th 
  St., Lebanon, with the funeral service immediately following. She will be laid 
  to rest next to her husband, and along with her immediate family at the Kurtz 
  Cemetery in Cocalico. Memorials may be directed to either the Preservation Fund 
  or the Endowment fund at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Christman's Funeral 
  Home, Inc., is honored to serve the family with the arrangements.
