Kramer PINE GROVE Anson "Jack" Thomas Kramer, 77, of Pleasant Valley Road, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. Born on October 5, 1932, in Pine Grove Twp., he was a son of the late Floyd, Sr. and Verna C. Berger Kramer. He was of the Protestant faith and formerly attended the Holiness Christian Church in Pine Grove, which was founded by his grandfather, Samuel Kramer, his father, Floyd, and his uncles. He was a 1950 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School and in 1958 completed Tool Design training with the International Correspondence Schools of Scranton. He was a Navy veteran during the Korean War from June 1950 until October 1953, and served in the Navy Air Corps. His tours of duty included USNIC Great Lakes, Ill., USNAS Paxtuxent River, Md., Fasron Nine, and Fighter Squadron 31. He served on many ships, including the U.S.S. Midway (CV-41), U.S.S. WASP (CV-18) and the U.S.S. CORAL SEA (CV-43). Anson received the national Defense Service Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal. At USNAS Paxtuxent, he serviced an aircraft flight tested by Alan B. Shepard, Jr., the first American in space. Shepard fondly referred to him as "Doc" and would not fly the aircraft before being signed off as "ready to fly" by him. Anson worked as a draftsman for 30 years for Bethlehem Steel before retiring in 1985 as a Product Design Supervisor. He also worked as a Transportation attendant for five years, retiring in 1997, from Hershey Medical Center. He was a member of American Legion Post 374, Pine Grove, where he recently received a certificate for being a member in good standing continuously for 50 yrs. He also served as Justice of Peace in Schuylkill Co. for several years in the 1960's and served as a volunteer for the Salvation Army. He was a devoted husband, Dad, and "Pop-Pop", and loved his family, Navy career, Penn State Football, and tinkering in his wood shop. He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Kramer, Jr. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Dolores M. Smith Kramer of Pine Grove; a son, Brian A. and his wife, Cindy Kramer of Pawleys Island, S.C.; two daughters, Debra E., wife of Scott Wetzel of Pine Grove, and Jane M.K., wife of Jerry Hawn of Alexandria, Va.; three grandsons, Andrew T. and his wife, Amie Kramer of Clermont, Fla., Matthew S. Wetzel of Windermere, Fla., and Alex T. Kramer of Bristol, Conn.; a granddaughter, Mallory J. Wetzel of Alexandria, Va.; and nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. from the H.L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, with Dr. Richard Schoenleber officiating. There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Hospice of Good Samaritan Hospital, 4th and Walnut Sts., P.O. Box 1281, Lebanon, PA 17042; or St. Peter's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 312 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963 in his memory.
