M. shabodeho@aol.com September 17, 2010, 1:04 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on September 12, 2010 Traute Laguna SHOEMAKERSVILLE Traute Laguna, 69, died on Friday, September 2, 2010, at the Reading Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her three children, Toni Laguna of Santa Fe, N.M., Louis Laguna of Cleona, and Roger Laguna of Harrisburg. Traute was born on March 25, 1941, in Frankfurt, Germany, and was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Margarete Heckmann. She moved from Germany to Alaska and later raised her family in California and Pennsylvania. She graduated class valedictorian in 1972 from the Industrial Management Institute in Reading and taught technical illustrating at Reading Area Community College. She retired from AMP Inc. in Harrisburg, where she worked for 25 years as an illustrator and designer. Traute was a woman of many talents - private pilot, accomplished artist, and master gardener, just to name a few. She was a dedicated friend, volunteer, mother, and grandmother and in addition to her three children is survived by her grandchildren, Patty 10, Kelly 7, Roger 14, and Marcella 10. She is also survived by her daughter-in- law, Laura Reyes Maloney of Harrisburg; her brother, Horst Heckmann of Germany; her brother, Manfred Heckmann of Vancouver, B.C.; and her sister, Inge Rikli of Switzerland. A private service was held with immediate family to celebrate Traute's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made towards cancer research.
