Leuschner LEBANON Karl William Leuschner, 79, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley Minnig Leuschner for 16 years. Born in Tower City, on April 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Albert "Bob" and Dorothy Leuschner. Karl was a graduate of Tower City High School, class of 1949, as well as a 1951 graduate of The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in Media. He retired as a Major of the U.S. Air Force after serving 20 years, with several tours in Southeast Asia. He then worked for 18 years as a Sergeant for the Pennsylvania Capitol Police in Harrisburg. He was a member of Zion of Iona United Methodist Church and a member of the Masons. Karl was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with his grandson, also named Karl William. Preceding him in death was his first wife of 12 years, Mary "Toni" Antoinette Wilkins. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Shirley, are his daughter, Carrie Machamer of Lebanon, wife of Craig Machamer, and their son, Karl. His three surviving stepchildren are Alan Minnig, husband of Dr. Melissa Burke of Schuylkill Haven, Ellen Reigel, wife of Kenneth I. Reigel of Ephrata, and Neil Minnig of Reading. Also surviving are his five stepgrandchildren, Billy and Sara Grace Minnig of Schuylkill Haven, Steven Shuey, husband of Rebecca Shuey, Kerilee Shuey, and Kristen Sauder, wife of Jason Sauder, all from Ephrata. A memorial service is being planned by the family and will take place at Zion of Iona United Methodist Church in Lebanon. In lieu of flowers and cards, memorial contributions may be sent to The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, 106 S. New Middletown Road, Media, PA 19063.
