Martel, Sr., 82, of 230 S. 5th St., died Friday, January 29, 2010, at his residence. He was the husband of Anna Mae Boyer Martel, to whom he was married 60 years. He was born in Lebanon, on November 26, 1927. He was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Knoll Martel. Robert graduated from the Lebanon High School. Robert is a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked for Bethlehem Steel for 38 years. He was a life member of the VFW Post 23, having served as Commander for two years, and Quartermaster for 10 years, and also a member of the Annville Legion. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Patricia A., wife of Douglas O'Roark of Myerstown, Robert A. Jr., husband of Janet Martel of Lebanon, and David L. Sr., husband of Rose Martel of Lebanon; nine grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; four brothers, James, Fred, and William Martel, all of Lebanon, and George of Tennessee; three sisters, Theresa Howard of South Carolina, Barbara Martel of Lebanon, and Rita Hain of Fredericksburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth C. Martel; four brothers, Richard, Leo, Louis, and Thomas Martel; and four sisters, Mary Jane Leibich, Margaret Eby, Cecilia Bowman, and Josephine Flashel. Funeral service Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 126 S. 9th St., Lebanon. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors. Viewing Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VFW Post 23 Honor Guard, 718 Chestnut St., Lebanon, 17042.
