He was born on Saturday, March 21, 1925, to the late Harold Matticks and Jean Matticks nee Oliver in Pittsburgh. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the 517 Army Airborne serving as a medic in European African Middle Eastern Theatre during WWII and was a recipient of a Bronze Star. He obtained his B.S. in Forestry from Penn State University in 1950 and served with the USDA Soil Conservation Service, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, was a member of the Penn State Alumni Association, and ATO Fraternity. Ralph was a Penn State football fan . Surviving are wife, Jean W. Matticks nee Williams of Lebanon; daughters, Janice, spouse of Timothy Mulac of Lebanon, and Margaret Miller of Hershey; son, Thomas, spouse of Elaine Matticks of Clarion; five granddaughters; two grandsons; and sister, Jane Oliver of Imperial. Viewing will be on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans Association, 6285 Pearl Road, Suite #7, Parma Heights, OH 44130.
