M. shabodeho@aol.com January 24, 2010, 9:53 am Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 1/10/2010 Mellinger, Harry Kenneth Harry Kenneth Mellinger COLORADO SPRINGS, CO Harry Kenneth Mellinger, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Mr. Mellinger was born on September 12, 1923, in Lebanon, to Harry and Amy Mellinger who are deceased. His only sister, Geraldine Peters, is also deceased. During WWII Harry served as a bombardier, flying 27 missions on a B-24 in the ETO. His numerous decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, four Air Medals, and the Presidential Unit Citation. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S.A.F. Reserve, served during the Korean Conflict, and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1972. After WWII Harry graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering. He then worked in civil service with the U.S.A.F. for 11 years, followed by 28 years with Ford Aerospace Corporation. After retirement in 1988, he was self-employed as a new business development consultant. His life was filled with many rewarding activities. Service to his country was his greatest pride. Harry was a member of community, professional, fraternal, and veteran organizations including the American Legion, VFW, FOE, and BPOE. He served as president of a Junior Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club. In his later years, he truly enjoyed the honor of being asked to emcee at the reunions of the Lebanon High School Class of 1941. He is survived by his wife, Alice A. (Kiki) Stiles; a son, Mark (wife, Kimberly) of Pasadena, Md.; a daughter, Becky of Glen Burnie, Md.; two stepsons, Alan Stiles (wife, Phoebe) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Eric Stiles (wife, Stephanie) of Kinnelon, N.J.; three grandchildren, Kyle, Spencer, and Olivia Mellinger of Pasadena, Md.; two stepgrandchildren, Nicholas and Allison; brother-in-law, Victor Peters of Lebanon; three nieces; and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010, at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
