Messinger, 62, of 805 Narrows Drive, died suddenly and of natural causes on Monday, February 8, 2010, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of Diane L. Deitz Messinger, with whom he would have celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary in June 2010. Born in Lebanon, on June 21, 1947, he was the son of Richard L. and Myrtle Risser Messinger of Lebanon. He was employed as a production coordinator for New Holland Apparel and previously as a plant manager for Everite Knitting Mills. Rodney was a graduate of South Lebanon High School and attended Millersville State College and was a star athlete in baseball and basketball in high school and college. He loved playing golf and guitar and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Shawn Nicole, wife of Ted Allwein, Jr. of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Braden, and Courtney Allwein; three brothers, Garry, husband of Kathy Messinger of Slate Run, Craig, husband of Marsha Messinger of Myerstown, and Dean, husband of Jeryl Messinger of Cleona; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home and Crematory, Rt. 72 and Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Prison Fellowship Ministries, 44180 Riverside Parkway, Leesburg, VA 20176-0176; or Jews for Jesus, 60 Haight St., San Francisco, CA 94102.
