Elder Jacob Owen Meyer, 75, passed to his rest April 9, 2010, at the Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. He peacefully left this life at 4:30 p.m. He was the husband of Ruth (Foreman) Meyer. Born in Bethel Twp., on November 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Jacob J. and Mary M. (Bross) Meyer. He attended the Evangelical School of Theology in Myerstown, specializing in Biblical languages, Geography, and History. He then attended Dropsie University in Philadelphia and also Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Jacob Meyer, known by most as Elder Meyer was President, Bishop, and Directing Elder of the Assemblies of Yahweh, a religious organization and Ministry he founded in 1966 with the Sacred Name Radio Broadcast. Elder Meyer served on the Advisory Board of the National Association of Shortwave Broadcasters, was an elected Constable of Bethel Township, and also served as Choir Director for the Bethel Choir. He was also an avid gardener and Managing Partner of Shalom Farm in Jefferson Twp. In addition to his wife he is survived by seven sons, Joseph G. Meyer, Columbia, Jacob C. Meyer, Bethel, Daniel K. Meyer, Philadelphia, Jonathan S. Meyer, Pinegrove, Micah D. Meyer, Tigerton, Wis., Nathaniel A. Meyer, Bethel, and Solomon E. Meyer, Bernville; three daughters, Mary E. Meyer, Bethel, Rachel A. Meyer, Sacramento, Calif., and Sarah A. Nutt, Sinking Spring; a brother, Carl E. Meyer, Ansonia, Ohio; and a sister, Mildred A. Deck, New Bloomfield, Mo. He is also survived by 37 grandchildren; and 19 greatgrandchildren. He was also predeceased by a grandson, Jeremy Seth; and a greatgranddaughter, Ashley Owen. Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Assemblies of Yahweh International Headquarters Convocation Center, 300 Airport Rd., Bethel, PA 19507, with Elder Jonathan S. Meyer officiating. Interment at the Assemblies of Yahweh Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the, Elder Jacob O. Meyer Memorial Fund, P.O. Box C, Bethel, PA 19507.
