Oest, 90, passed peacefully on May 21, 2010, after a long illness. Memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1800 Oak St., Lebanon. A Military Honor Guard Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. William was an Eagle Scout, member of the National Guard, and served as First Sergeant with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of War. He retired from a career as Plant Engineer with New York Newsday Newspaper on Long Island. William was a 32nd degree Mason, Mount Lebanon Lodge 226. William is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Marian Oest; daughter, Christine Nelson; son, Douglas Oest; daughterin-law, Patricia; and grandchildren, Christopher and Patrick. He was a dedicated and generous father, grandfather, uncle and friend, whose stories, sense of humor and harmonica playing will be greatly missed.
