M. shabodeho@aol.com June 3, 2010, 8:33 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on June 2, 2010 Otis "Shirl" Oliver Otis Oliver ANNVILLE Otis "Shirl" Oliver, 82, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day, Sunday, May 30, 2010, at The Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth E. (O'Neal) Oliver. He was born Saturday, September 10, 1927, in Martinsburg, W.Va., to the late Otis S. and Grace (Warble) Oliver. He was a Veteran of the Merchant Marines and the Air Force, having served in WWII and Korea. He was a proud veteran and loved his family, country, and flag. He was an ambitious, self made man who focused locally on Campbelltown as the former owner of the Rising Sun Restaurant, hotel, laundromat, storage units, mobile home communities, and sales. He was a member of F&AM of PA, Mount Lebanon Lodge No. 226, Harrisburg Consistory, obtained his 32nd Degree, and was Past Commander, 1954-1955, of Campbelltown American Legion, Post 831. He is survived by two daughters, Sherry E. Sweigart and husband, Dale E. of Lebanon, and Pamela A. Stanley and husband, James W. of Myerstown; a son, Steven N. Oliver and wife, Judy L. of Palmyra; five granddaughters, Lisa Minich and husband, Gregory of Harrisburg, Jennifer Brubaker of Annville, Stephanie Reifsnyder and husband, Jason of Lititz, Caitlin Oliver of Middletown, and Jessica Stanley of Myerstown; a grandson, James Stanley, III of Myerstown; a greatgranddaughter, Samantha Jennings of Mechanicsburg; one sister, Helen O'Fake of Jacksonville, Fla. He was predeceased by one sister, Virnangus Oliver; two brothers, William and Melvin Oliver. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, 17078 with the Rev. J. Thomas Truitt officiating. Masonic Services by Mount Lebanon Lodge No. 226 will precede the funeral services. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to The Good Samaritan Hospital, 4th and Walnut Sts., Lebanon, PA 17042.
