Owens ELIZABETHTOWN Robert Lee Owens, 86, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Born in Houtzdale, on September 30, 1923, he was married to Marjorie (Dubler) for 64 years. They had two sons, D. Alfred (Fred) Owens, married to Judith Mueller-Owens, and Robert Owens, married to Vicki Nyul Owens. He is also survived by first daughter-in-law, Deborah Harris Owens; and by six loving grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Valerie Owens of Christiansburg, Va., Caitlyn and Elijah McNaughton of Lock Haven, Abigail Owens of Chapel Hill, N.C., Sarah Owens of Lancaster, Colleen Owens of Newmanstown, and Airman Ryan Owens, overseas. Mr. Owens earned his B.S. from Shippensburg and master degrees from Penn State and Ohio State. A lifelong educator, he served as a teacher, principal, counselor, and was head of the Franklin/Adams Counties' G.E.D. program. In recognition for outstanding service in adult education, he became known in Harrisburg as "Mr. G.E.D." A veteran of WWII, he earned five Bronze stars and a Silver Star, as well as the Verdun medal and the Fleur de Guerre from France. Memorial services will be held in Sell Chapel at the Masonic Village on Friday at 9:30 am. Donations of remembrance can be directed to the Hospice services at the Masonic Village. Arrangements are by Miller/Sekely Funeral Services, Elizabethtown.
