Rhodes passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. She was married to James E. Miller until his death in 1957, and since 1960 she has been the wife of Jacob L. Rhodes. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in April with a day of celebration with family and friends. She was born in Lebanon, on October 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Paul W. and Ruth Wrede Basehore. A 1946 graduate of Lebanon High School, she earned her R.N. at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia in 1949 and was on the nursing staff at the Lebanon Sanatorium, now the Kaplan Pavilion, until 1958. She then accepted a position as school nurse, earning her B.S. in Public School Nursing at Millersville University in 1964. She served as a substitute school nurse in many of the schools in Lebanon County, most often in the Lebanon and Annville-Cleona School District until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Annville, and participated in the WELCA quilting group. She was a member and former officer of the Lebanon Valley College Auxiliary, and served as a nurse volunteer for Dr. Weyland's Well-Baby Clinic, for the Lebanon Family Health Services, and other health agencies in the county. She was also a volunteer worker in the gift shop at Spang Crest Manor. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters and a son, Andrea and her husband, Timothy Salem of Wernersville, Marcia and her husband, Steven Garcia of Camarillo, Calif., Carol and her husband, Dax Norman of Marrriotsville, Md., and William and his wife, Stephanie Rhodes of Newark, Del. Also surviving are a granddaughter, Victoria Ruth Norman, and grandson, Jacob Thomas Rhodes; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Polly Ann Gingrich in 2004. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 E. Main St., Annville, 17003 at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with family visitation preceding the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family. Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, Annville, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Extended Ministry Fund, St. Mark Lutheran Church; or to Spang Crest Manor, 945 Duke St., Lebanon, PA 17042; or to Lebanon Valley College, 101 N.
