Richard, Sr., 82, went home to heaven on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at his home. He was the husband of Eva M. Stoever Richard, and on Monday, October 11, they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Born in Fredericksburg, on November 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Elmer S. and Kathryn G. Gingrich Richard. For 54 years he was the owner and operator of the D.E. Richard Garage in Fredericksburg until his retirement in 2001. In 1965, Dale bought the old Grimes Stadium at the east end of town and operated the Fredericksburg Speedway for seven years. He served as field engineer with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. He was the founder and Chairman of the Fredericksburg Community Association that was instrumental in the formation of the Fredericksburg Health Center and the Fredericksburg Library. For 12 years he served as the Justice of the Peace, six years as a Bethel Township Supervisor, and he was the founder and the Chairman of the Fredericksburg Sewer and Water Authority. He was a life member of the Fredericksburg Fire Co. where he served as the fire chief for 25 years. Dale was the founder and served as past President of the Hinkelfest Committee, was a member of the Fredericksburg American Legion Post 915, and in 1976 he was the Chairman if the Bicentennial Parade. He was a member and past president of the Fredericksburg Lion's Club and was also past Chairman of Zone A and had over 43 years service with perfect attendance. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dale E. Richard, Jr. of Fredericksburg; daughters, Rita L., wife of Dennis Christ of Fredericksburg, and Judy G., wife of James Orasky of Davenport, Iowa; brother, Lynn Richard of Womelsdorf; sisters, E. Nita Richard of Fredericksburg and Mary Ann Hernley of Lebanon; grandchildren, Dennis Christ, Jr., Danielle Hitz, Jeffrey Orasky, and Justin Orasky; four great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, J. Glenn Richard, and a sister, June Matthews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt. 72 and Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown. Viewing will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church at P.O. Box 173, Fredericksburg, PA 17026; or to the Fredericksburg Community Association, P.O. Box 14, Fredericksburg, PA 17026.
