Shaak, passed away April 3, 2010, at the Hospice Center of the Lebanon VA Medical Center with his son, Michael, by his side. Dewey was born in Lebanon, on October 23, 1922. He was the last of his immediate family. He was the son of the late Dr. R. Dewey Shaak and Sophia Shaak, nee Speleki. His twin brother, Lewis D. Shaak proceeded him in death. Dewey was married to the late Natalie Shaak, nee Culhane. They had three children, Michael D. Shaak, Sr. of Lebanon, Stephen D. Shaak of Lebanon, and Cinthia L. Shaak of Elizabethtown. Dewey was a graduate of Jonestown High School, attended Lebanon Valley College, and graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College. He practiced Chiropractic in Myerstown, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jonestown. Dewey was a WWII veteran, serving as a Navy pilot. He received his wings and commission at Pensicola, Fla. He attained the rank of Lt. JG, and was a flight instructor at Dallas Naval Air Station. Dewey started the Myerstown Lions Club, and was the first president, and the guiding force behind the building of the Myerstown swimming pool. Dewey played all sports as a young man, and became an avid golfer. In 2003 a book that he had written was published- Remembering Anita, A Life Well Lived. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Arrangements by Auer Cremation Services of PA, Inc., Harrisburg.
