Shartle of Grandview Dr., died at his home on Friday, November 26, 2010. He was born in Lebanon, on November 15, 1943, son of the late William J. and Nora Bowman Shartle. Ernie was a graduate of Lebanon High School Class of 1962 and Mansfield State Teachers College Class of 1967. Prior to his retirement he taught for two years in the Newark Valley School District in New York and for seven years in the Towanda Area School District, were he served as Recreation Director and swim coach. He retired from the Tunkhannock Area School District after 25 years of teaching were, he served as swim coach for a number of years. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. Ernie was very active in the American Red Cross Chapter in Wyoming County. Ernie was preceded in death by brothers, Harrison Shartle and Paul Shartle; and sisters, Nora Boyer, Dorothy Shartle, Ruth Royer and Lola Groff. Surviving are his wife, Rose M. Johnson Shartle; sons, Rick Hiduk of Marietta, Todd Shartle of Akron, Ohio, Eric Shartle of Pittsburgh; daughter, Lisa Ruszin of Pittston; brother, Lester Shartle of Myerstown; sisters, Pauline Sattazahn of Lebanon, Verna Ebright of Myerstown, and Lula Weik of Lebanon; granddaughters, Adrienne Shartle of Akron, Ohio, and Samantha Ruszin of Pittston; grandsons, Reagan Shartle of Pittsburgh, and Ethan Shartle of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 29, at 11 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Kenneth W. Trexler, Pastor of the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Wysox Cemetery, Wysox.
