Shirk, 95, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Myerstown. She was born February 22, 1915, in Brutus, Mich., (Emmet County), the daughter of Peter M. and Sarah Ann (Brenneman) Brubacher. She was the wife of Aaron M. Shirk, who preceded her in death on June 15, 1981. She lived at their Laurel Hill farm for 73 years. Amanda was a homemaker and a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference. Surviving are five sons, Daniel, married to Edna (Horst) Shirk of Newmanstown, Walter, married to Marion (Martin) Shirk of Downing, Mo., Peter, married to Naomi (Martin) Shirk of Denver, Aaron, Jr., married to Ruth (Zimmerman) Shirk of Lebanon, and Wesley, married to Wanda (Martin) Shirk of Narvon; nine daughters, Sarah Ann, married to Mahlon Zimmerman of Memphis, Mo., Rhoda, married to Mervin Brubaker of Womelsdorf, Martha, married to Mervin High of Cantril, Iowa, Mary, married to Roland Weiler of Rutledge, Mo., Louise, married to Ivan Martin of Memphis, Mo., Irene, married to Marlin Brubaker of Myerstown, with whom she resided, Lydia, married to Carl Hoover of Gorin, Mo., Rose Anna, married to Lewis Nolt of Richland, and Amanda, married to Henry Martin of Pine Grove; 103 grandchildren; 432 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Katherine Martin of Nappanee, Ind. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth (Shirk) Weiler; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Henry, Jacob, Silas, Gideon, and Joshua; and three sisters, Mary, Betsy, and Lydia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 3, at 8:45 a.m. at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center, 352 Martindale Road, Ephrata, with further services at 9:30 a.m. at Bowmansville Mennonite Church with the Bishop Amos G. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers.
