Smith, 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine E. Leedy Smith, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage this past June 4th. Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Earl R. and Beatrice K. Light Smith. Earl had worked as an engineer for the Black and Decker and DeWalt Companies for 31 years. He had been a member and chairperson for the Northeast Region of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was an active and devoted member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Neffsville for 45 years, where he served on numerous committees and volunteered with many activities. A World War II veteran, Earl had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Private First Class as a radio mechanic. He had also played the trombone in the Air Corps Band. Earl is survived, in addition to his wife, by his daughter, Elayne C. married to Tracey Olson of Elizabethtown; his son, Timothy A. Smith of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Megan, Paige, Garret and Kendra; and one great-grandchild, Aiden. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth YiengstBean of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by his son, Theodore N. Smith, who passed away on December 3, 2009. Friends will be received on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Bethany Chapel of Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz. Friends may call again on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11 a.m. the Revs. Richard Geib and Jacquelyn Roderick officiating. Interment in Schaefferstown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Earl's memory to the Caring Fund at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz PA 17543; or to the Capital Fund of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church (address above). Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, Lititz 5605100.
