Audrey was born on April 29, 1936, at Oak Hill, Kan., but grew up in Parsons, Kan. Her parents were Vincent and Faye Fischer Gray. Her childhood was filled with love, joy, and excitement. From the first grade to the completion of her Doctorate she excelled in her educational endeavors. Her intelligence and caring personality were a blessing to her many friends. Audrey was musically talented and participated in a variety of high school activities. There was hardly a dance that she wasn't invited to because of her grace and natural beauty. (This was duly noted by her loving and devoted husband, Bill.) Audrey was a Christian and a lifelong active member of the church. She taught Sunday School, served as Deacon, Elder, and prayer group leader. She attended many church retreats, with her favorite being CFO camps. Audrey and her husband, William, were married in Lyndon, Kan., and moved to Shippensburg. She was a faculty member in the Teacher Education Department and later Chairperson of the Department at Shippensburg University. Upon retirement in 1999, she and her husband moved to Lebanon to be closer to her daughter, Jennifer, and three grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Audrey graduated from Emporia State University with a B.S. and M.S. degree and in 1985 obtained her doctorate at Temple University. After graduating from Temple University, she worked for three years for the West Virginia Department of Education as Director of Teacher Certification. She often talked about how much she liked working for the state department in West Virginia. Audrey's main interests were education, reading, involvement in church, and loving her children and grandchildren. She loved traveling with her husband and wintered in New Mexico and South Carolina where her daughter, Debra, lives. Audrey is survived by her husband, William, at home; daughters, Debbie Gee of Columbia, S.C., Robin Wade of Lenexa, Kan., and Jennifer Evans of Richland; sons, Randall Dawson of San Antonio, Texas, Karl Sprenger of Indiana, Pa., and Kurt Sprenger of Fishersville, Va.; two brothers, Arnold Gray of Prescott, Ariz., and a younger brother, Thomas Bayless in Parsons, Kan.; and 14 grandchildren, all of whom will miss her loving presence. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty, who passed away July 30, 1998. Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010, at 1 p.m. from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 S. 12th St., Lebanon, 17042.
