Stone, Sr., 90, died Tuesday January 12, 2010, in his residence. He was the husband of Helen A. Shirk Stone, whom he married in 1946. He was born in High Bridge, N.J., November 19, 1919, son of the late Charles J. and Lila May Wack Stone. He was a retired cement mason and member of Plasterer & Cement Mason Local 592. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, attaining the rank of SSgt. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lebanon, where he had served on the property committee, church council, and ushered for many years. He was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and fly tyer. In addition to teaching fly tying he was a Hunter Safety Instructor for 45 years and Deputy Game Protector for 35 years, receiving Outstanding Deputy Game Protector of Southeast Division in 1978 and Outstanding Instructor Award in 1985. He received the John B. Sollenberger Memorial Award for 'Meritorious Community Service' in 1980, from The Central Chapter Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. In 1980, 1986, and 2002 he received recognition for his devoted efforts and dedication to the sportsmen of PA and Lebanon County from the Lebanon County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs. He had served as Treasurer of the Lebanon County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, R Field & Stream and the Sweet Arrow Rod & Gun Club. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Robert A. Stone of Newmanstown, and Gary L. and wife, Laura Etzweiler Stone of Neshanic Station N.J.; grandson, Jeremy Lee Stone and wife, Sasha of Jonestown, and Tyler Lee Stone of New Jersey; great-grandson, Hunter Lee Stone of Jonestown; and his wife's late sister's four children whom he raised when both their parents died, Charles R. Young, Jr. of Lebanon, Eleanor Young of Lebanon, Cathy, wife of Dennis Michael of Lebanon, and Dennis Young and wife, Linda of Lebanon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Stone, Jr; sisters, Carlotta Dick, Naomi Stone, Mary Ellen Stone, and Carol R. Samek; and brothers, Luther Stone and George R. Stone. Funeral services 10 a.m. Monday, January 18, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 723 Lehman St., Lebanon. A viewing will be held Sunday evening 7 to 9 p.m. in the Rohland Funeral Home, Inc, 508 Cumberland St, Lebanon. Interment in Grand View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 723 Lehman St., Lebanon, PA 17046.
