Wagner LEBANON Ethel Marie (Ackerman) Wagner, 95, formerly of Collegeville, passed away at Cornwall Manor, Cornwall, Lebanon Co., on Saturday. Born in Tamaqua on May 2, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Mokher) Ackerman. Ethel received her R.N. from Woman's Medical College in 1937 and went on to complete her B.S. at the University of Pennsylvania and West Chester University. After teaching nursing arts at Woman's Medical College, she devoted her career to public school nursing in the Perkiomen Valley School District. On Christmas Eve, 1938, she married Paul R. Wagner of Tamaqua, and moved with him to Collegeville, where he taught in the science department of Ursinus College until his death in 1970. Ethel was a loyal and active member of Trinity Reformed Church, United Church of Christ, Collegeville, and delighted in the seasonal activities and celebrations. Upon her retirement in 1979, she traveled extensively, including a four-month stint in Vellore, India, as a medical volunteer through the United Church of Christ. She served on the U.C.C. Board of Global Ministries and was treasurer of the U.C.C. Penn Southeast Conference Board of Christian Concern which oversees the operation of Jefferson Apartments, W. Norriton Twp. She was a charter member and past president of the Delta Kappa Society International, Beta Mu chapter. She loved time spent with family over a table of board games, and with friends over a hand of bridge. Uniquely blessed with a vivacious spirit, sense of humor, and love of people, she made many deep and abiding friendships throughout her life. Ethel was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul and all six of her siblings. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Henrietta 'Holly' Mai, of Burley, Idaho, and Karen Margaret Wagner of Hastings- on-Hudson, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Michele Anne Widmier of Rupert, Idaho, and Shawn Paul Mai of Albion, Idaho; three greatgrandchildren, Kolby and Trey Widmier of Rupert, Idaho, and Samantha Mai of Albion, Idaho; and two step great- grandchildren, Benjamin and Zachary Friedrichsen of Albion, Idaho. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010, at Trinity Reformed Church, U.C.C., 532 Main St., Collegeville, with the Rev. Dr. Martha B. Kriebel, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at church. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, in Zerr Chapel, Manor Rd., Cornwall Manor, Cornwall. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the Holcombe Funeral Home, Inc., Trappe.
