  Whitman, Richard    
   
  Richard Whitman GAFFNEY, SC Richard Sterling Whitman, 77, went home to be with 
  the Lord on Friday, January 1, 2010, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. He was 
  the husband of Gladys Bleistein Whitman. Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the 
  late Sterling Whitman and Agnes Curtin Whitman. Mr. Whitman was retired from 
  Bethlehem Steel and was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the 
  Korean War. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Paul 
  Catholic Church, Spartanburg, S.C. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 
  two sons, David Whitman of Summerton, S.C., and Mike Whitman and wife, Ronna of 
  Gaffney, S.C.; two sisters, Jackie Whitman of Lebanon, and Nancy Gerlach and 
  husband, John of Lancaster; and three grandchildren, Dawson Whitman, Sawyer 
  Whitman, and Emi Beth Whitman. Mr. Whitman was preceded in death by two 
  sisters, Colleen Toye and Jean Sirola. The family will receive friends from 10 
  to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blakely Funeral Home, Gaffney, S.C. Memorial services 
  will immediately follow at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Father David 
  Whitman officiating. The family will be at the home of Mike and Ronna Whitman, 
  140 Caroline Orchard Road, Gaffney.
