Yanney, 80, retired physician from the VA Hospital, died Friday, November 26, 2010, at Spang Crest Manor. He was the husband of Mrs. Marie (Guirgis) Yanney. Born January 3, 1930, in Assiut, Egypt, he was the son of the late Marcus Yanney and Sadika Saif Makar. Formerly of Jersey City, N.J., and Egypt, Dr. Yanney has lived in Lebanon since 1971. He was a member of St. Anthony Coptic Church of Annville and St. Mary's Coptic Church of Lancaster. He was very dedicated to the Coptic Church and served as Superintendent of Bible Study in Egypt and the United States. He was the leader of a group who fought for their Pope to be released from house arrest and was an outspoken speaker about the persecution of Christians in Egypt. Dr. Yanney wrote three volumes about the Coptic Church's heritage. He was the editor of the Coptic Church Review, The Bulletin, and El-Resala. Dr. Yanney was a renowned international speaker and spoke at many churches and universities. He was a quiet man, but strong with his pen. A real advocate for his church and patients, he was a graduate of Cairo University where he received a Diploma of Medicine in 1959, a Diploma of Cardiology in 1963, and a Diploma of Pediatrics in 1964. In 1969 he passed the District of Columbia State Board of Medicine Examination, in 1970 he became American Board of Internal Medicine Qualified, and in 1987 he received American Board of Internal Medicine Advanced Achievement in Internal Medicine. He was a member of American College of Physicians since 1974, and in 1990 he became a Fellow of American College of Physicians. Dr. Yanney was a licensed physician in Pennsylvania, New York, District of Columbia, and New Jersey. He worked as a General and Internal Medicine Physician in Egypt from 1953 to 1968. Then he moved his family to the United States and worked in General Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Cardiology. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Maurice (Erica) and Lucie (Kevin); and brothers, Dr. Raouf Yanney, Engineer Ralph Yanney, Dr. Raef Yanney, Dr. Raif Yanney, and Raoufa Yanney. He was preceded in death by his child, Mina Yanney; and a brother, Dr. Randolf Yanney. A liturgy will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at St. George Coptic Orthodox Church, 411 Dekalb Street, Norristown, PA 19401. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting. Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Anthony Coptic Orthodox Church, 118 W. Main St., Annville, PA 17003; or St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church, 3602 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601; or to St. George Coptic Church, 411 Dekalb St., Norristown, PA 19401.
