Allwein HARRISBURG Timothy Michael Allwein, 54, died unexpectedly February 18, 2011, at Pinnacle Health Community Campus, Harrisburg. Born July 16, 1956, in Lebanon, he was a son of William F. and the late Sarah C. Vancho Allwein. A devoted husband and loving father, Tim is survived by his wife, Karen Rider Allwein and daughter, Sarah E., at home. He is also survived by his father and stepmother, William and Kathleen Allwein, Lebanon; a sister, Susan Housel (Bud), of Eldersburg, Md.; two brothers, William (Kathy), of Lebanon and Jeffrey (Lori), of East Stroudsburg; four nieces and four nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews. An accomplished professional, Tim was Assistant Executive Director for Governmental & Member Relations for the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, in which he served as chief lobbyist, representing local school officials before the General Assembly, State Board of Education and other agencies. Since joining PSBA in 1991, Tim served in various leadership capacities including Past Chair of the National School Boards Association's Conference of State Association Legislative Staffs and former chair of the PA Local Government Conference. He frequently represented PSBA on the board of the PA Interscholastic Athletic Association. He was a member of the PA Association of Governmental Relations and of the PA Society of Association Executives. Over his career, he served as Executive Director of the Hardwood Lumber Manufacturers Association and Director of Communications for the PA Poultry Federation and for the former West Shore Chamber of Commerce. Tim was also an outstanding and enthusiastic support to his family. He was very involved with the many performances and activities of the Bishop McDevitt High School Marching Band. As an active parent, he mentored others through his wit and humor. He was a well-respected member of the community, who never failed to turn a frown into a smile. Tim was also an involved member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, where he was a lector and member of the Knights of Columbus, Third Degree. Tim was a 1978 graduate of Shippensburg State College, a 1974 graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School and a lifelong member of St Cecelia's Catholic Church, formerly St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Lebanon. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, Harrisburg. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Route 422 & Lucy Ave., Hershey. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
