Bailey, 86, died Sunday, November 13, 2011, at StoneRidge Towne Centre, Myerstown. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Updegrove) Bailey, to whom he was married many years. Born in Birdsboro, on October 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Ruth (Geigley) Bailey. A 1943 graduate of the former Birdsboro High School, he graduated from the Banks Business College, Philadelphia. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in the Signal Corps as a Radio Communications Operator; the Pacific Theater in New Guinea, the South Philippines, and the Luzon area. He received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the Asian Pacific Theater Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. He was also a member of the Lebanon Country Club, the Birdsboro Alumni Assn., a life member of the VFW Assn., and was the former treasurer of the Jackson Twp. Authority. He was employed as an accountant at the accounting firm of Ernst & Ernst, Reading, from 1948-1957. In January 1958, he began employment with the PA Optical Co., Reading, where he served as Treasurer and Vice President until purchasing the Kumm Esse Diner, Myerstown, in late 1972 which he operated until selling it on July 1, 1994. He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Myerstown, and was a former member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, Birdsboro, where he served as treasurer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Beverly wife of Bruce Hardy of Womelsdorf; son, A. David "Pete" Bailey of Wernersville companion of Peggy Harlin of Sinking Spring; grandchildren, Jared husband of Allison Hardy of Myerstown and Devin Hardy of Womelsdorf. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Murray in March 2006. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from Friedens Lutheran Church, Myerstown. There will be no viewing. Visitation at 9 a.m. at the church. Interment at the Birdsboro Cemetery. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, was entrusted with the arrangements.
