Basehore, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Florence E. Deimler Basehore. Born March 3, 1925, in Hummelstown, he was the son of the late Edward and Clara Messemer Basehore. Rev. Basehore was a retired United Methodist minister, having served Bobo Methodist Church in Indiana from 1950-1952, Churchtown and Morgantown United Methodist Churches from 1952-1961, Cornwall United Methodist Church 1961-1990, and St. John's United Methodist Church, Lebanon 1990-2003. While serving at Cornwall U.M. Church, he also was Chaplain at Cornwall Manor in the 1960's and Chaplain at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, retiring in 1985. "Rev." also was Chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol and served on numerous Lebanon County Agencies and Boards for many years. Rev. Basehore attended Hummelstown schools, graduating from Hummelstown High School in 1942. He worked at Olmstead AAF Base from June 1942 through March 1943 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps, attending Radio Operators School at Scott Field, Ill. Later he attended Radar School at Madison, Wis., graduating as a radio operator and mechanic. He served in the China Burma India theatre in India during WWII. Following his discharge from the military, he returned to Olmstead Air Force Base in 1945. In 1946 he attended Fort Wayne Bible College, graduating in 1952 and while attending Bible College, he also attended Purdue University Extension as well as Indiana University Extension. He attended Lebanon Valley College in 1953 and graduated in 1957. He earned a Master's Degree from Temple University in 1958. In addition to his wife, Rev. Basehore is survived by a son, Gary, husband of Rita Lynn Basehore of Jonestown; daughter, Lynette, wife of Lynn Doster of Lebanon; grandchildren, Michael Basehore, Shane, husband of Nicole Felty, Chad Felty, and Dawn, wife of Bryan Eshenour; and eight great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lt. Harold E. Basehore, Jr., who was killed while serving in Vietnam; brothers, Milton and George Basehore; and a sister, Irene Lightner. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral from the Cornwall U.M. Church, Alden St., Cornwall, on Monday, January 24, 2011, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Samuel Fry, the Rev. James Heath, and Mr. Dennis Louwerse officiating. Friends may call Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ruffner-Porterfield Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, Ltd., 890 Isabel Drive, Lebanon. Interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
