Vera S. Bechtold 

PALMYRA Vera (Steffy) Bechtold, 93, of 170 E. Market St., passed away 
peacefully on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Elmcroft of Lebanon. She was 
predeceased by her husband, Roy A. Bechtold, on Saturday, January 6, 1996. She 
was born Monday, May 14, 1917, in Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, to the 
late Mahlon and Frances (Steffy) Hibshman. She was retired from Lebanon Valley 
College and was a member of Community Bible Church, Palmyra. She is survived by 
three children, Alice Emerich and husband, Sherman of Lebanon, Russell Bechtold 
and wife, Virginia of Mount Prospect, Ill., and Mary Fenton of Lawrenceville, 
Ga.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her 
immediate family, predeceased by four brothers, Mark, Enos, John and Luke 
Hibshman; four sisters, Nettie Ziegler, Sadie Ziegler, Fannie Balsbaugh, and 
Beulah Risser Gockley; and a son-in-law, James Fenton. Funeral services will be 
held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 
25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078 with Pastor Greg Wilson officiating. Family and 
friends are invited for viewing from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial 
will follow in Midway Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Lebanon.
