M. shabodeho@aol.com May 18, 2011, 12:37 am Published in Lebanon Daily News on May 17, 2011 Sandra Kay Bicksler MARYLAND Sandra Kay Bicksler, known lovingly as Sandy, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011, after a brief, but valiant battle with cancer. She was 67. Born at home in Myerstown, on October 11, 1943, she was the youngest daughter of the late, Claude and Mary Houser of Myerstown. She graduated from Myerstown High School, Class of 1961 and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Millersville University, Millersville, and her Masters in Library Science from the University of Maryland in 1982. She was a active member of Calvary United Methodist church, Annapolis, Md. Sandy was a highly regarded media specialist teaching and administering the reading selections and curriculum for both Anne Arundel County and Queen Anne's County schools. She retired from Anne Arundel County Schools in 2008 after 30+ years of teaching and working in library administration. She was teaching at Stevensville Middle School at the time of her death. She had a passion for reading which she shared with her family. Gardening, travel and spending time with her family and friends were treasured activities as well. Sandy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard "Dick" Bicksler; a daughter, Barbara Bicksler Doherty and her husband, Peter of Oak Hill, Va.; a son, Douglas Bicksler and his wife, Leslie of Lewisburg, W.Va.; a sister, Grace Brightbill of Myerstown; a brother, Robert Houser of Lebanon; grandchildren, Holly, Ryan and Kathryn Doherty and Mary Adeline, Suzanne and John Bicksler; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on Friday at Calvary United Methodist Church on Rowe Boulevard, Annapolis, Md. A reception will follow at the church. The family is requesting donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., Centreville, MD.
