Charles "Luke" Boughter, 86, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. He was the husband of Harriet Ruth (Peyton) Boughter, who died September 13, 2010. Born in Reading, on June 1, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Esther A. (Stauffer) Boughter. He served as an aviator in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Along with his wife, he was a missionary in Portugal for 25 years for the Evangelical Alliance Mission. After returning to the U.S., he was a professor at Lancaster Bible College in PA for seven years and Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina for one year. He then worked for the Bible Christian Union Mission as Director of Personnel for seven years before reitrement. He was a member of the Mt. Aetna Bible Church, Mt. Aetna. He is survived by daughters, Esther Rapson of Vienna, West Virginia, Susana wife of Daniel Rohrer of Elizabethtown; sons, Mark husband of Madeline Boughter of Hanover, New Hampshire., Daniel Boughter of Carol Stream, Illinois and Andrew Boughter of Belgrade, Montana; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Amelia wife of John Schnirel of West Palm Beach, Florida; and two nephews. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A memorial service will be held at the Mt. Aetna Bible Church at a later date. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown has been entrusted with the arrangements.
