M. shabodeho@aol.com May 18, 2011, 1:21 am Published in Lebanon Daily News on May 17, 2011 LaRue L. Bowers LEBANON LaRue L Wible Bowers died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the age of 97. She married Robert S. Bowers, Sr. of Mercersburg in 1929, and they lived most of their lives in Somerville, N.J. Born on August 26, 1913 in Hustontown, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Estella Wible of Clear Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1964; their son, Dr. Robert S. Bowers, Jr. in 1977; and their daughter, Gail R. DiPaolo in 1992. She is survived by her son, James H. Bowers of Lebanon; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. LaRue worked at the Sears Roebuck Mail Order Department for 4 years and worked at RCA Corporation of Somerville, N.J. for 20 years. She was an honorary life member of the local 439 International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers. She was a volunteer for the US Civil Defense during the Second World War as an aircraft observer. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Somerville, N.J., and a member of United Methodist Womens Auxiliary. She moved to Chambersburg in 1995, and then moved to Lebanon in 2004 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law. LaRue enjoyed traveling and dancing and among her favorite hobbies were knitting, in which the entire family benefitted over the years from numerous hats, washclothes and booties and gardening, with her green-thumb she could get plastic flowers to grow. Mother, Nana will be missed but never forgotten. A private memorial service and internment will be held later this summer at the United Methodist Church of Clear Ridge.
