Cintron, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the beloved husband of Alvana (Miller) Cintron, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on Valentine's Day 2011. He was born on December 19, 1927, in Mayaguez, the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, the son of the late Ricardo and Maria Ramos Cintron. As a young man, he moved to Pennsylvania where he lived and worked for farmers in Lebanon County and New Jersey. Later he was employed by the Pennway Bakery, Annville; Gill Rock Drill Company, Lebanon; and Alan-Barr Aluminum, Palmyra. He retired as a crane operator from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Lebanon, and retired from Annville-Cleona High School as head custodian. He and his wife owned and operated "Cintron Brothers Variety Store" on 9th St., Lebanon, in the 1970's. He was a Spanish newscaster for W.A.H.T. Radio, volunteered as an interpreter for the Red Cross during the 1972 flood to aid victims, was past President of Inter American House in Lebanon, and a panelist in many churches around Lebanon County as a spokesman for Spanish speaking people. He was a member of the Lebanon Toastmasters Club in the 1970's, where he won many speech awards. In 1971, he was appointed by Gov. Milton J. Shapp to serve a three year term on "The Governor's Advisory Council for Comprehensive Health Planning", where he served as a Board member on the Nominating Committee. In 1972, he was appointed by the Governor to Lebanon County Board of Public Assistance, and he was on the Affirmative Committee for Equal Job Opportunity, Transportation and Housing. He was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Annville. He attended high school and agricultural school in Mayaguez, P.R. He gave up his education to go to work to support his parents and his siblings. He proudly earned his G.E.D. in Lebanon in 1986 at the age of 59. He lived life to the fullest each and every day. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener and landscaper. He loved animals, especially his birds. He had an interest in everyone he met, especially those in need. He went out of his way to help anyone, whether they were in need of transportation, financial help, food, or a place to stay. Victor Cintron will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four daughters , Lydia, wife of Joseph A. Mahar, and their children, Helen, Joseph S., and Christopher, all of Woodbridge, Va.; Holly, wife of John Grammatico, and their son, John (J.V.), all of Washingtonville, N.Y.; Susan Cintron of Annville, and Lisa, wife of Paul (P.J.) Higgitt, and their children, Nicole, Megan, and Jenna, all from Troy, N.Y. He loved and adored his grandchildren and was so proud of all their accomplishments. He was predeceased by his only beloved son, Victor R. Cintron, Jr. He also leaves two sisters, Carmen Quinones and Luz Ramos, both of P.R.; his youngest brother, (Jose) Antonio Ramos from New York; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ermisteria, Emelinda, and Sylvia; and brothers, Luis, Juan, Rosendo, Casiano, and Raphael. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
