Cox passed through the gates of this life on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at home. He had recently celebrated his 85th birthday. He was born February 9, 1926, on the family homestead in the woods of South Lebanon Township. His parents were Harry Joseph Cox and Mary Yaklich Cox. He grew up in large family of twelve children. He came of age during WWII. Enlisting in the Armed Services at 17, he served in the Army Air Corps. He received his training on a Base near Tonapah, Nev. as a nose gunner flying in the B24 Bomber aircraft. He flew missions over the European Theater. Ed knew the woods of the Furnace Hills area very well. He owned and operated a sawmill business in Elizabeth Township for 40 years. He also grew and sold Christmas trees on land that was part of his parents' original homestead. Later in life he developed the artesian springs there into a wholesale water business, South Mountain Spring Water Company. He was an avid woodsman, hunter and fly fisherman. He built a classic log cabin there and developed a pond behind it for fishing and wildlife habitat. He welcomed many hunters to the cabin for deer season over the years, as well as many guests of all ages to fish and rowboat in the pond. He also loved to watch horse racing and was a serious student of The Racing Form. He met his longtime life companion, Catherine Woodard Kurtz (deceased), when he was 35 years old. He stood as a stepfather to her children and a grandfather to her grandchildren. He faithfully cared for her during final years. Her children and grandchildren have many fond memories of their times up at the cabin and pond, in the woods with 'Grandad'. Ed is survived by two brothers, James and wife Shirley of Ephrata, and Paul and wife Josephine of Akron.
