Daubert, 82, of Fredericksburg, died on Thursday, June 2, 2011 following a brief illness. He was born on December 8, 1928 to the late Minnie and George Daubert of Suedberg. One of seven children, Harlan developed a passion for the piano and musical performance at a young age. Following an early graduation from Pine Grove High School in 1945, he attended Lebanon Valley College to pursue a degree in music education. Later, Harlan would complete graduate studies at The Pennsylvania State University and Lehigh University. During his final semester at Lebanon Valley College, Harlan Daubert launched a 37-year musical teaching career at Fredericksburg High School, beginning with a band of 18 members. During his tenure in the Northern Lebanon School District, he nourished his beloved music program and the band swelled to over 200-members at his retirement in 1986. His students played in venues across the United States and Ireland, including performances in the Macy's and Gimbel's Holiday parades as well as the Orange, Cotton, and Rose Bowl parades. Mr. Daubert's bands won accolades for its military precision and musicianship. Through his joy for music, Harlan developed character in countless young men and women, each a tribute to his professional legacy. Harlan Daubert has been recognized with numerous awards, including the distinguished alumnus award of Lebanon Valley College, Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Lebanon County Educational Honor Society, Excellence in Music Award by the Lebanon County Choral Society, Harlan was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Lebanon Rotary Club, was inducted into the National Band Directors' Hall of Fame, and is a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Club. His professional associations include the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Lions Club, and Phi Beta Mu. In recognition of Harlan's devotion to his students and their many accomplishments, in 2009 the Northern Lebanon School District named the high school auditorium in his honor - "The Harlan A. Daubert Performing Arts Center." With a steadfast Christian faith, Harlan lovingly served as director of music and church organist at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon until his death. Mr. Daubert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Jeanne Beaver Daubert. He has seven children, Suzanne of Lebanon, wife of Wayne Fox; Nancy of Riverside, Calif. wife of Yutaka Kishino; Harlan of Winston-Salem, N.C. married to Sarah; Alison of Lebanon; Elizabeth of Landenberg, wife of Albert Cavalier; Christopher of Holly Springs, N.C. married to Katie; and Aaron of Jersey City, N.J. He has 13 grandchildren, Lindsay Fox Good, Michael and Stephanie Fox, Katherine and Andrew Kishino, Harlan, Emily and Harrison Daubert, Maxwell and Hayden Daubert, and William and Annie Cavalier. He is survived by a sister, Eva Longsderff of Lancaster. A viewing will be held in "The Harlan A. Daubert Performing Arts Center" at the Northern Lebanon High School of Fredericksburg from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon. Interment will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family requests donations be made to the Harlan A. Daubert Memorial Scholarship Fund.
