M. shabodeho@aol.com July 22, 2011, 1:46 pm Published in Lebanon Daily News on July 17, 2011 William G. Davis NEWMANSTOWN William "Bill" Glenn Davis, 96, died peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2011. He will be sorely missed by his family and the many friends and acquaintances he made over the years in Newmanstown. He was the husband of Pearl A. (Reed) Davis, who died July 22, 2000. Born in Porter Twp., on October 12, 1914, he was the son of the late John Guy and Clara (Miller) Davis. A 1932 graduate of Porter Twp. High School, Tower City, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 601st Tank Destroyer Bn. and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with seven Bronze Stars and one arrowhead. He was employed as a machinist for 28 years at Berks Engineering Co., Reading, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Newmanstown Athletic Club, Newmanstown Fire Co., life member of the Richland American Legion, and was an avid golfer. He is survived by a daughter, Clarrie, wife of James Putt of Myerstown; granddaughter, Cassandra, wife of Dustin Gingrich of Womelsdorf; great-grandchildren, Bryson and Laney Gingrich, both of Womelsdorf; nieces, Elaine Shanfelder of Newmanstown and Barbara Vickery of Baltimore, Md.; and nephews, John Guy Shanfelder of Myerstown and Jack Long of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by sisters, Blanche Long and Catherine Shanfelder; and brothers, Harry and Jeff Davis. There will be no public viewing as per Bill's wishes. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Millcreek Memorial Cemetery, Newmanstown. Friends and family are invited to share memories and partake in refreshments at the Newmanstown Athletic Club following the graveside service. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, is entrusted with the arrangements.
