Erwin, 96, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on Sunday, October 18, 1914, to the late William R. Erwin and Mabel Erwin nee Ulrich in Lebanon. He was a veteran of the Army in World War II. Sterling worked for Western Union for 40+ years where he retired as a manager. He continued, after retirement, at Lebanon County Correctional Facility as a Chief Records Clerk for 18+ years and retired in 1990. He enjoyed walking and jigsaw puzzles. Sterling also liked people and watching sports. Surviving are wife, Ruth M. Erwin nee Potteiger of Lebanon; daughters, Diane McKinney of Lebanon and Nancy Lynn of Lebanon; grandchildren, Patrick McKinney, Jr., Brent Pottieger, and Julie Smeltzer; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Susan C. Erwin, and several siblings. Viewing will be on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grand View Memorial Park, Annville, following the service.
