Etter, 85, Lebanon, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of the late Isabel Tuck Etter, whom he married in 1948 and who passed away in November 2007. He was born in Hershey on February 3, 1926, son of the late Samuel and Rose Levitz Etter. Mr. Etter originally intended to be a math professor but ended up running the family business after his Father's death in 1953. A business his Father began as a small news stand, selling tobacco and candy in Palmyra, which then became the Lebanon Valley News Company. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, serving as a pilot. Mr. Etter graduated from the University of Miami, Cum Laude in 1949. He was the president and CEO of the Lebanon Valley News Company. He was Chairman of the Farmer's Trust Company and later served on the Executive Board of Fulton Financial. He was Secretary/Treasurer of the Atlantic Coast Independent Distributors Assoc. He developed the Ben Tuck Riding Stable, Lebanon into the Tuck Business Park. He cared deeply about his community and was sure to volunteer and contribute where he saw he could make a difference. He served as Chairman City of Lebanon Water Authority for 40 years. He was president of Congregation Beth Israel from 1981 to 1983 where he is a member. He served as Chairman of Good Samaritan Hospital, worked 24 years with the Lebanon County Vocational School, member of the Community of Lebanon Assoc., Lebanon Downtown Authority, Lebanon Lions Club and the Steitz Club. Surviving are sons, Alan Etter, Lebanon; Steven S., husband of Kristen Etter, Harrisburg; grandchildren, Jami Etter Friedman of Harrisburg; Lindsey MichelleEtter and Shelby Paige Etter, both of Miami, FL; great grandchild, Tucker Devon Friedman and sister, Miriam Etter Blickstein, Cornwall. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend David's funeral services on Monday, November 21, 201 at 1:00 PM from Ruffner-Porterfield Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, 890 Isabel Dr., (next to Quentin Circle), Lebanon with Rabbi Paula Reimers officiating.
